For two decades, I, Janak Patwari, climbed the corporate ladder, traveling extensively and building an urban life. Yet, amid the busy schedules, festivals became rushed rituals. We paid the price of modern success in a currency of disconnection, missing the vibrant cultural roots and warmth of extended family.

Everything changed during a long-overdue visit to my ancestral home. My family was showered with love by aunts, uncles, and cousins. For the first time, my children experienced the true depth of togetherness and witnessed the rich heritage and colorful native attire of our region. It was a profound awakening: festivals are not just dates on a calendar. They are our identity, our belonging, and the ties that bind us.

I realized millions of urban Indian families yearn for this exact cultural connectedness. That is why I left the corporate world to create Antakshari.

I live in Bengaluru, a city where a Gujarati Navratri, a Bengali Durga Puja, and a Tamil Varamahalakshmi Puja all happen within the same few weeks, often in the same apartment building. Families have moved here from everywhere and want their children to grow up knowing what these occasions actually look and feel like. Such would be the case in many other cities in India.

I didn't want to build "yet another ethnic wear brand." Everyday kurtas and generic fusion wear are already well served. What isn't well served is the specific, slightly stressful, deeply meaningful task of dressing your whole family — kids included — for a festival that matters. That's the gap I built Antakshari to fill: clothing designed around the occasion itself, not just the category.
